New job and other stuff
As usual, I suck at updating my LJ page. I just don't find much about my life interesting enough to inflict it upon other people. I signed up an account on Twitter, but I don't expect I'll be posting any more there than I do here. I do log into Facebook on a daily basis, but that is mostly to play games. Still, I guess Facebook is the one place that I have semi-regularly updated the world on my life status. I realized this when a very close, long time friend caught me in EQ and was unaware that I had a new job. Even my mom is on Facebook, so at least I'm able to keep in touch with family there. I've also reconnected with a lot of old friends on there recently. Its nice to touch base with people I haven't heard from for 20 years. It seems that my high school reunion is coming up in October. I'll attend if work schedule permits it. As said above, I finally found a new job. I'm doing contract-to-hire Tier 1 Tech Support for Cbeyond. I'll be supporting small businesses T1 lines for both data (internet) and voice (phone). It wasn't my top choice in job, but in this economy anything is good. Also, there is a strong chance of moving up within the company inside of a year. I just have to survive my 6 month contract-to-hire period. In other exciting news, I finally got a new phone. I now have a Blackberry Bold that does all kinds of neat things that I never expected my phone to do. For the first time, I can now send and receive text messages to my phone. I'm not any good at it, and I really see no major point in it since I can also check email with it, but it can be cool to get messages from some of my friends out there. Anyway, that's how things are going with me. I'm not certain what schedule I'll be on at work, so I don't know how much time I'll be able to spend at DragonCon this year. I know I'll go at least a little since I already have the membership, but I may not make many of the panels or parties. Oh well, back to the Everquest raid I'm on. Yes, I'm still playing EQ. I still enjoy it and plan to keep playing it until either it shuts down or my enjoyment of the game stops. At this point, I'd put the chances of the servers shutting down at higher odds than me stopping enjoying the game. :P Oh yeah, Happy Memorial Day to all of our veterans and Happy Towel Day to all you hoopy froods. -Belz Current Mood: accomplished | | Thursday, January 22nd, 2009 | | 12:10 pm |

Empire Magazine has revealed its list of the 50 Greatest TV Shows ever, so LJ has a TV meme :) 1. Bold the shows you watch/used to watch. 2. Italic the shows you've seen at least one episode of. 3. Post your answers. ( View the list....Collapse ) Current Mood: amused | | Thursday, September 25th, 2008 | | 12:00 pm |
The End has come
Well, It finally happened. I zagged when I should have zigged. I failed my Dodge check. The Man finally caught up with me. Today I was notified that my position at EarthLink is being eliminated. I am hereby being let go. My last day of work will be December 16, 2008. I will receive the standard severance package and since I have been with the company for 10 years, that should get us through for a few months while I job hunt. In other news, on Monday my wife was diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis. She is currently undergoing intravenous steroid treatment to combat her current episode. The doctor is hopeful that this will restore her vision back to normal. He also says that it may be years before she has another episode. MS isn't nearly as bad to deal with these days as it was some years back, but it will make it more difficult to get insurance while I'm between jobs. Oh well, life is what it is. We'll get by no matter what. I may end up getting a better job like many of my friends that were laid off previously. -Belz Current Mood: blah | | Sunday, August 24th, 2008 | | 8:35 am |
Supervillian Archtype
Is anyone surprised by my results? Your result for The Supervillain Archetype Test...The NemesisDriven, Hateful, Obsessed
The Nemesis is the villain that even the most powerful hero fears. Your hatred for your lawful counterpart knows no bounds.
Your main goal may have been wealth, or power, but not anymore. Somebody, or something, has tweaked you the wrong way, and nothing will stop you from making that costumed freak pay! Nemeses are implacable, calculating, and just a little bit insane. You don't lose sight of your goal. Ever. You may join up with other people who hate the same person, but you can't work with them for long, because you want the pleasure of victory to yourself.
The main weakness of Nemeses is that they are a bit like cats. Once they've caught the mouse, they can't help but play with it, toy with it, make it suffer. This extra attention leaves them vulnerable, and their new mouse will often bite back.
Sample Nemeses: The Joker, The Green Goblin, Venom, Bizarro Superman

TOM SMITH FUND RAISER MP3 ALBUM!!! | | Stolen in its entirety from journal post by lukeski I'm mostly copying this from webmistress Sara "Dement1a" Trice, who created the website for this Fund Raiser, which was organized by Rob Balder and DJ Particle:
THE TOM SMITH FUND RAISER MP3 ALBUM: "Mr. Smith Goes to the Hospital - A Fast Fund Raiser for a Fast Filker" http://www.partiallyclips.com/tomsmith/
Tom Smith is one of the nicest, most gracious and most talented musicians I've met. He can write a song in about the same time I can eat a bowl of cheese dip. (For those of you that know me, you know that's fast!)
Tom is a filker by trade, it's what he does solely for a living. While trying to get on a high stage at a recent show, he tore his quadricep, and badly. He will be in the hospital or at least assisted living for physical therapy for months, since he can't put any weight on that leg, and having had previous problems, that pretty much confines him to chair/bed. (Read about it in Tom's own words here: http://filkertom.livejournal.com/831853.html) This means he can't play any shows for the next few months, AND he'll be racking up medical bills galore since he has NO medical insurance.
Tom deserves all the support he can get. Please, if you have a few bucks to spare, go to the above site and donate what you can to him via PayPal. I know everyone's tapped right now, but anything will help. As a bonus, you get access to download 40+ cover versions of Tom Smith's songs on MP3, many done just for this compilation! Contributing artists include THE GREAT LUKE SKI, SUDDEN DEATH, WORM QUARTET, ROB BALDER, POSSIBLE OSCAR, TV'S KYLE, DJ PARTICLE, ODD AUSTIN AESCHILMAN, ART PAUL SCHLOSSER, RANDY HOFFMAN, STEVE MACDONALD, TOYBOAT and many many more. It's over two and a half hours of excellent tracks, your bonus for opening up your heart and your wallet to one of the greatest guys in fandom.
And before any of you say "I don't like filk," you better listen to Tom first. I'm not a big fan of traditional filk myself, but this man is downright FUNNY. If you remember me talking about a song called "Cat Macros", this is the guy. Also, "Tech Support For Dad" is a riot. Ditto "Fenton: Deeath Sheep From Hell", "The Illuminati Polka", "Superman Sex Life Boogie", "Talk Like A Pirate Day", and the list goes on and on. Trust us, you want to check out this collection, and of course the tracks by Tom himself at his websites. Links to all of that are at http://www.partiallyclips.com/tomsmith/
Also, if you are a friend/fan of Tom's, please post this everywhere you can! Thank you. | Current Mood: accomplished | | Friday, March 7th, 2008 | | 7:02 pm |

Halloween Party Prep
That magical time of the year is upon us. The time is fast approaching for the annual Halloween Party. Since Halloween falls in the middle of the week, we're holding our party on Saturday, November 3rd. This gives everyone a chance to pick up costume supplies and goodies at the after Halloween sales before coming to the party. Everyone is welcome. Well, nearly everyone. There is that one person who I told not to come back. The problem is that I was drunk and don't remember who it was. If it was you, you're still not welcome. Everyone else feel free to drop in, bring friends and have a great time. Party details: Where: Belzarak's house When: Saturday, November 3rd. 7pm Eastern Why: Good excuse to have a party Who: YOU! and anyone you wish to drag along with you. How: If you don't know how, we'll try to find someone to teach you. Please remember, no children. We no longer have an altar, so they just get in the way. If you need more info or directions to the party, please send an email to belzarak@gmail.com -Belz Current Mood: accomplished | | Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 | | 11:41 am |
Dragon Con, HO!
I'm getting prepped. I'm getting ready. I'm getting hyped up. I'm getting...bored with waiting. This weekend, I'll be attending DragonCon for the first time in TEN years. I forgot that it had been that long until someone pointed out to me that the Dawn Look Alike contest was a brand new event the last time I was there. Damn, that makes me feel old. Anyway, that's what I'll be doing this weekend. Finances are tight, so I won't be buying stuff or participating in any gaming, but I will be going to panels and maybe wandering into the random party. And the Filking. Can't forget the filking. With Tom Smith as the organizer, I expect the filking to be superb. Any else going to be there? -Belz Current Mood: anxious | | Thursday, July 12th, 2007 | | 1:26 pm |

You're the Social Chameleon type. The way you are, you blend into your present company for the best fit possible, matching personality traits so as to make the best impression possible. But you can also use this ability to disappear, and no one really knows you are on the inside. You're a purposeful enigma. Yyour opposite is the Charismatic Scary, who you usually do not get along with. Take this quiz!

I'm the perfect leading man Your Score: Jimmy Stewart You scored 23% Tough, 14% Roguish, 57% Friendly, and 9% Charming! You are the fun and friendly boy next door, the classic nice guy who still manages to get the girl most of the time. You're every nice girl's dreamboat, open and kind, nutty and charming, even a little mischievous at times, but always a real stand up guy. You're dependable and forthright, and women are drawn to your reliability, even as they're dazzled by your sense of adventure and fun. You try to be tough when you need to be, and will gladly stand up for any damsel in distress, but you'd rather catch a girl with a little bit of flair. Your leading ladies include Jean Arthur and Donna Reed, those sweet girl-next-door types.

Is this thing on?
*tap, tap* I realized I haven't updated in a long time. I'm still alive. Still working at the same job. The 14th anniversary of me getting married is next week. Still playing EQ. I have started playing WoW a little bit. EQ is still my main game for raiding, but WoW is fun for goofing off. I'll try to update again sometime. -Belz | | Saturday, November 18th, 2006 | | 5:01 pm |
Goodbye, Old Friend
As many of you already know, yesterday marked the end of the best radio station that Atlanta has ever seen. 96Rock was more than just a radio station. It was the gateway for those of us out in the small towns to escape. I can't believe how upset I am that a radio station has changed its name and format. It just feels to me like I've witnessed a life long friend killed in front of me. I feel like a part of my heart was ripped out in those final seconds of the station. At least they went out by playing the same song that they started with in 1974. I'll probably never again hear Baba O'Riley without thinking about 96Rock. -Belz Don't cry Don't raise your eye It's only teenage wasteland Current Mood: depressed | | Friday, October 27th, 2006 | | 11:08 am |
The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
It is indeed, the most wonderful time of the year. Halloween is fast approaching. Folks are putting finishing touches on their costumes and planning out their evenings. These things must be planned properly to ensure frightening the minimum required number of children and stealing the best of their candy. Ahh, the joys of Halloween. Since Halloween itself falls during the week, I am having my annual Halloween party on the following Saturday. For those of you too intoxicated to do this difficult bit of addition, my party will be on Saturday, November 4th. The party will start around 7pm, or whenever folks start showing up. It will go on until everyone staggers inside and finds a place to crash for the night. Everyone is welcome to come. I have a pretty good liquor supply, but very little in the way of mixers. If you want to bring something for yourself or to share with others, feel free. Otherwise, come join in the fun of drinking too much and hanging out with freaks in weird outfits. This is different from work in the fact that very few of the freaks will be on conference calls and most of us can't drink (openly) at work. If you're in the metro Atlanta area and are interested in coming and don't have directions already, drop me an email at: belzarak {at} gmail {dot} com. If you can't figure out the email address above then you don't deserve to breathe, much less come to the party. -Belz Current Mood: bouncy |
